OVERVIEW After the South Devon Players Theatre Company's success with the stage production of Les Miserables The Memoirs of Jean Valjean, several members, including committee members, and show performers, hit upon the idea of dramatizing Les Miserables, as a web film series, as a near-unabridged drama.
We are well aware that this will be an ambitious ongoing project, and will first be shooting a promo film trailer, in order to raise funds for the first episodes, in spring 2015. This will show off many of our cast, and concepts for the series - proving it is actually taking place, and showing the concepts for mood, imagery, and introducing many of the key actors for the series.
We also need to make contact with other serious, dedicated people who would like to be involved as performers and crew, in this series which we expect to last for about 20 episodes based as closely as possible on the book.
This project is being headed by Ric Vince, an experienced stage and film actor who played Jean Valjean in our theatre show, and will be reprising the role for the film, and Laura J, director of the theatre production, and co-founder of the theatre company, who holds a Masters degree in theatre, and two undergraduate degrees in film & TV production. This will be crowdfunded project, with each episode requiring crowdfunding, casting, and locations, we are hoping that after the first episodes, that we will be able to raise enough to recompense the performers financially for their time, and this will need to be decided from each episode, as various episodes will have vastly different budgets. Initially, all funds raised will be needed to purchase professional recording & editing equipment. We have a large number of costumes and props from the theatre production, and access to ideal locations for the opening episodes. When, later, we come to the Parisian scenes, the production will be a great deal more complex, and show budget rise in-line. By then, we hope the production will be well known online, and the crowdfunding be able to not only cover the production requirements, but also recompense for the actors. Please remember that these are talented performers putting a lot of time and skill into the show, and therefore they would be most grateful for the possibility of recompense! Each episode will be an hour long, telling a specific part of the story. Filming for the series will begin in 2015. For the South Devon Players theatre company, this is the group's first foray into film production. The South Devon Players are an award-winning non-profit, film and theatre company from Torbay, in South Devon, UK. Founded in 2005, on the £80 proceeds of a carboot sale, and specialising in historical & classical productions, the Players have rapidly grown into a lively, ever-expanding group of theatre and film enthusiasts, an eclectic mix of both amateur and professional performers aged 13 through to 75, who work together on challenging new productions. We also support other local community groups, charities and events with performances wherever possible, and deem it important to keep theatre and performance as accessible to people as is possible, while providing networking and wider performance and modelling opportunities to our members in order to allow them to develop their careers.
